Hellenistic Fountain

Hellenistic Fountain is one of the most well preserved and oldest stricter which locates near the entry of Great Theater in Ephesus City.

The fountain was erected as a small and beautiful building that had two columns with Ionic capitals and a small pool, water was runnig with pipes, poured into the pool through the three lion heads on the marble wall.

With only the Ionic capitals the front of the fountain had a simply decoration. The fountain was for both decoration and for supplying water to public. During the Roman period, this simple Hellenistic structure was extended by 2 meters to the front and two more ionic columns were added to its porch facing the road.
